HRFC mourns the passing of Bill Dudgeon, peacefully in his sleep.
Bill was 94, our second oldest player, and played for the Club in the early 1950s. Work then took him to Gala where he played for the 1st XV before a leg break ended his career.
He played in the first two fixtures v CYM, with rare newsreel footage emerging this year of him kicking a conversion at Lansdowne Road as part of the clubs “on-field (unofficial) pre-match entertainment” in 1950.
He was also the Head of the Works Committee, at the tender age of 22, who created our first clubhouse in 1951 from two cottages on what is now the Mill Wynd Car Park.
In his last visit to Neilson Park for the 2022 Old Goats Lunch he took great delight in meeting current players Hugo Elder and Ross Morrison, whose grandad and great grandad, respectively had been his former teammates.
Our thoughts are with his family.
Funeral details to follow.
